The Racold FPC solar water heater for domestic applications consists of a flat plate collector, an insulated water storage tank, and supporting structure. The flat plate collector is the key component of the system. It is made up of a rectangular box with a transparent cover (usually made of glass) and a dark-coloured absorber plate that absorbs sunlight.

  • The functioning of the Racold FPC solar water heater is quite simple. Sunlight passes through the transparent cover of the flat plate collector and strikes the absorber plate. The absorber plate, which is coated with a special selective coating, absorbs the solar radiation and converts it into heat. This heat is transferred to the water flowing through tubes or channels attached to the absorber plate.
  • The heated water is then stored in an insulated tank, which helps to minimize heat loss. The insulation ensures that the stored hot water remains hot for a longer duration, even during the night or on cloudy days. The hot water can be used as and when required, providing a continuous supply of warm water throughout the day.
  • FPC solar water heaters are relatively low maintenance systems. They require periodic cleaning of the flat plate collector to remove dust or debris that may accumulate on the surface and reduce its efficiency. However, overall, they are robust and durable systems that can withstand various weather conditions.
  • The FPC type Solar water heater usually denoted as Pressurised Solar water heater also because of its high-pressure withstanding capacity. Racold Solar water heater can withstand a maximum of 8 bar pressure, where as the pressure pump settings of domestic systems are usually 2-3 bars of pressure.

Solar radiation from the Sun directly impacts the absorber surface in a flat plate collector, where it undergoes conversion into thermal energy. This process enables the flat plate collector to harness and utilize solar radiation effectively for the generation of heat energy. On heating, the water becomes lighter and rises to the hot water storage tank.

The OMEGA MAX 8 solar water heater incorporates a unique Air Release Valve with a Vacuum Release Function.
